Anne Alesch

Anne joined the Salem family in 2025 and has been engaged in full-time ministry in Des Moines for almost 15 years after graduating with her Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University. She is currently a chaplain with UnityPoint Hospice, and also teaches theology classes intermittently for Simpson College. It is because of the flexibility of these careers (and her enthusiasm!) that she's also able to serve as one of Salem’s pastors.

In her free time, she adores traveling with her family and exploring the history, landscape, and culture of new places. She also has several hobbies; she loves doing handstands, playing tennis, gardening, reading, paddleboarding, and trying (almost) any new adventure. 

Anne is deeply passionate about creating community, and she's always looking forward to discerning how we can cultivate ongoing opportunities for connection at Salem. Additionally, she loves reflecting on difficult questions and pondering how God might be present for us during various life challenges.

Scott Valentine

Scott has served Salem as Pastor since 2019. He has a passion for Pastoral Care, for teaching confirmation to our youth, and for wrangling kids.

Scott Whisler

This "Scott" has served as Co-Pastor at Salem since 2021. Not to be confused with "The Real Scott," this "Other Scott" loves the opportunity to preach and teach at Salem.

Deb Reinhart

Deb served as Salem's Office Manager starting in 2014. Her main job was to keep everyone (the pastors and Salem's Board) on task, a miracle she performed with aplomb and for which she will likely be sainted!  It is with mixed emotions that Deb shared her decision to retire from her position as Office Manager at Salem UCC in late 2025. Over 11 years, she truly enjoyed being part of Salem UCC staff. The close relationships she built with the pastors, staff, and members have meant so much to her, and she will deeply miss the day-to-day interactions. 

While she's not going anywhere, she felt that it was the right time to step into retirement. She shared a sincere "thanks" to all of you for the support, kindness, and friendship you’ve shown her over the years.

Holly Paulsen

Holly stepped into the Office Manager role beginning in October 2025. She has the same email, office@salem-ucc.com and her office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30am-12:30pm.  She's excited to be working with everyone at Salem and looks forward to meeting everyone!  More info to come...!
